2013-07-30: Wandering around St. Johann, hiked up to the Mittelstation on Kitzbueheler

Sorry y'all, time is short so I'm light on the prose - the pics are teh awesomez though.

Today, we hiked from our place up to the "half-way point" up the Kitzbueheler.  Other than a little difficulty determining the correct trails when we started, it was easy navigation, NOT SO EASY uphill.

One of the things that we've noticed in Tirol is how absolutely uphill EVERYTHING is.  The locals think almost nothing of it.  Now that (in real-time) we're in Basel, Switzerland, we had someone give us directions a certain way to avoid the steep uphills.  We did the uphill, and just laughed - it was almost *flat* compared to St. Johann and St. Anton!  :)

So many panoramic views!

One of my sweeties!

Getting higher!

Yeah.  That's a big 'un

They take their signage very seriously.  VERY SERIOUSLY.

Meditations in the woods.  Zen, man.

I love her.

I love her.

I love her.

Lots of places, just like this!  It's not even like they do it for the tourists, this is what their houses REALLY look like :)

Cool artificial lake half way up - they use it for snowmaking in the winter.  We use it for chucking rocks.

Look at that gorgeous couple!

Obligatory flower pic!

Laughs were had at inappropriate times and inappropriate humor.

The aftermath.

Soon.

After our hike was done, we headed down to the town to walk around.  Because nothing beats a long exhausting walk like walking some more!  :)

These cowbells are seriously the size of my head.

You can see the clouds covering the peaks in the background - I think this was when Amy and I got to head down to the village ourselves to take in some of the jazz and other spectacles.

This building has been around for a VERY long time indeed.  Built about the time of the Fourth Crusades, Genghis Khan was kicking ass all over Eurasia, Marco Polo was but a glimmer in his parents' eyes, and it was 75 years (!) until William Wallace would show the Brits what Scotsman were made of.

Amy, looking incredibly European.

This was a dog, just wandering around the town.  I half expected it to have a barrel of whiskey around its neck.

All is right with the world, yes?

The main square of St. Johann.

Another beautiful building that's been around for a VERY LONG TIME.

Tomorrow, we'll take the gondola to the middle station and summit the Kitzbueheler Horn - very excited to see the view!

More soon.
