Day 8 - Salzburg, Austria, continued! 2019-07-05

Mostly pictures, I'm running out of words for now :)  But we did have an absolutely fantastic day, capped off by the most amazing classical music concert any of us have experienced.  Unreal levels of talent.  I realize that is a LOT of superlatives (the MOST superlatives EVER) (there's 2 more).

Starting our second day in Salzburg!

NEIN DANKE!  Super-long lashes to match their super-long necks?  Talk about unrealistic body image "I can't just make my neck longer, Becky!"

Like pilgrims to the birthplace of a genius.  (the lower half is a Spar grocery store now :(  )

Heading up the incline at Kapuzinersberg

View from the top!

They caught him!

We also found our favorite cemetery again, loved visiting this place 10 years ago, and it was Amy's favorite when she lived here during her Goth phase.

Have found it interesting how many times I've seen the Eye of Providence.  Always a little spooky, god watching everything and all.

In case you didn't know, much of this is focused on death.  I'm trying to figure out if skulls were more normally seen back then, or if they were even more scary than now?

There's the guy!  He doesn't look bad for someone that's been on their feet for a few hundred years

How are those bars supposed to contain skulls with wings?

Amy's dorm!  The street it's on has changed its character to be a bit more upscale (and it's not just a girls-only Catholic dorm anymore either).

Outside Mirabell Palace, 10 years later!

"The dwarf with the butt" - it writes itself!  And who couldn't love that little face!

Find you someone that looks at you the way this golden winged creature looks at DEM CALVES.

One of Amy's works of brilliance!

Oh!  How cute!

... and then *right next to that* - HOLY SHIT WHAT IS THAT?  Sometimes art helps make you think, sometimes it's just a red flag.

Ready for some culture!  Heading in to the Mirabel Marble Hall Concert

Who did it better?  Amy and Maya...?

...Theresa May...?

...or Exit Sign Guy?

Mirabell Marble Hall - *great* venue, small enough to be intimate, acoustics are awesome.  Mozart used to perform here, now musicians that train at the elite music academy that bears his name (Mozarteum).

OK, holy crap, that is some amazing music!  The quartet consisted of 2 violins, a viola, and a cello.  I believe they all train at the Mozarteum.  They played a few pieces of Mozart, then a Polish composer, then Beethoven.  All of it was amazing, although the Polish composer from mid-1900's had a very chaotic sound, a very disquieted mind.  But the amount of pure skill and emotion that went into this performance blew us away.  Wow.

As it gets hotter (it's almost 90 deg F today), this fan gets more awesome.  So does Maya!

Hardly able to put into words just how incredible that concert was, we're still riding a high

And Maya and Amy and dancing home in the twilight.

And in honor of our Nation's birthday:
