2013-07-16: Visit to Grinzing, more swimmy time for the fish

In 1984, Amy and her family lived out the outskirts of Vienna in an area called Grinzing.  It's a pretty swanky area, they definitely have money there.  But at the time, it was even more so - I've heard stories of armed guards, shards of glass embedded on the tops of walls, etc.  Lots of ambassadors and diplomats living in that area.

Today we went back to Grinzing (which is only really about 10 mins from where we're staying near the Hernals transit stop).  It was really fun to see all of the areas that Amy and her family used to hang out in the 80's :)

I have evidently forgotten how to English at this point, so I'll let the pictures do the talking!

I LOVE this picture.  Maya and her books.  So peaceful, so right.

Would you just *look* at her?  Dang.

This is the actual house that they stayed in for the summer of 1984.  Looks a little worn for the years, but I wish we could have gone inside!

"Aragosta" is Italian for "food that will kill Rick".  Nice of them to be so upfront about it though.

The vineyard had lots of celebrity vines - thought this pairing was interesting.

Old crypts are cool.
We visited a cemetery that had a bunch of cool old things in it, but there was also a compost heap.  I tried to convince Ella that the compost heap was where they put you if you couldn't afford a plot, but I don't think she bought it.

We have a fair amount of time in train stations (they're awesome, btw).

I'm sure I was doing something suspicious to warrant such a look.

Our lunchtime dining Heuriger.

Ella likes to think differently about a lot of things, and this is one of the many things that make her awesome.

Beethoven lived here.  No big.

Amy giving Maya a kiss at the bottom of a slide.  The more things change, the more they stay the same!

Oh hey, great.  More "dance".  WTF man?
