Today was awesome - although my feet are still killing me. Turns out that walking 10+ miles in sandals is probably unwise. We covered a LOT of ground, heading north through Marienhof (and lots of other platzes and hofs) Got to spend quite a bit of time in the English Gardens - larger than NY Central Park, very beautiful. There was a super-cool section on the river (that was flowing REALLY fast) that had a standing wave where all the local surfers gathered and each took turns of about 30-45 seconds before bailing and the next one would start. There were about 20 of the surfers there, and this was on a Tuesday morning... Wonder what the place is like on the weekends!
We went down by the University of Munich, which is beautiful. On the way through, we discovered something: King Ludwig evidently liked to build things and otherwise be incredible. Bunches of the buildings were built by him, and it also turns out the Oktoberfest began in 1810 as his wedding celebration. Oktoberfest is quite a konsumption-fest: in 16 days they go through 1.5 million gallons of beer, 500,000 spit-roasted chickens, and the shame of several million enthusiastic attendees.
Ended up at an outdoor biergarten by the side of a lake in the English Gardens for lunch. The gigantic stein/mug of beer that you see Amy holding is NOT photoshopped (neither are her biceps). Turns out that both of the girls find Radler to be fairly good, in fact :)
Oh, there was also a "hunk count" today - Ella and Maya got up to around 90 and then had to stop (they can count higher, what's up with that?). Of course I was hunk #1, and to be quite honest, I think they may have double-counted me another several dozen times.
Dinner was a wurst-pocalypse of our own - got stuff from possibly the friendliest butcher in town. That, with fresh vine-ripened tomatoes and strawberries that were AMAZING, throw in a few semmels and a glass of wine and we'll call it dinner!

You joke all you want about a "12-oz curl", that thing was HUGE. |
I asked Maya if this was where they kept the Golden Fleece. Emphatically, she replied "no! It's an elm tree!" She's almost always right about mythology, but it was actually an apple tree (thanks Wikipedia!) |

These dudes were super-cool. I will learn to surf. |
In an especially swanky neighborhood by the river/garden. |
How do you know this guy is badass? FOUR FREAKIN' LIONS ON A LEASH, THAT'S HOW. Like a boss! |
Germans are good at LOTS of things, but they seem to be particularly excellent at building the huge doors to my nightmares. |
This was taken directly outside (down) from my window. If these guys had any clue about how juvenile I am... I'm sure they would appreciate the extraordinary lengths I went through to not drip water on them. See? I have [some] self-control! |
It's a little bumpy, but guess who doesn't have to replace/pay for it every other year?!? |
I would pay real money to see this movie. |
NOT anatomically-correct, FWIW. |
