Hey guys, I sacked out in our room and will be doing so again soon, so am not getting all the blog posts done like I should.
But I wanted to say that the bike trip is going really well so far! The bikes are nice, but boy are they solid. And when I say solid, what I really mean to say is HEAVY. It's too bad they don't have at least toe clips - my legs are getting tired of just pushing DOWN all the time. I don't think I've ridden this much without clips of some kind since 1983. So although we're making pretty good time, it's always couched in relativistic terms. E.g., "given that our bikes are so heavy", etc. Anyway, we're happy to have a 20 kph moving avg, and factoring in the stops, it takes a while.
The leg from Passau to Schloegen was beautiful. Schloegen to Linz was also very nice, but a longer day than the previous, and by the time we got to the hotel we were quite happy to rest in AC for a while before heading out to explore (not much) and dinner (a hoot!). Linz to near-Greine was the longest day yet (60K) not helped by some reconstruction and detours along with getting lost a couple times. All told, it was a 70K day, and it's hot. Happy to be in the hotel - another fabulous meal (all of them have been incredible!).
Tomorrow I think we end in Melk - very much looking forward to it, maybe a 55K - 60K day.
