Bullets:
- I know this will come as no surprise to you, but Amy's German is LEGIT. Constantly getting the German equivalent of "holy crap! You're from AMERICA? WTF are you doing speaking so fluently, meine liebling?" One of these comments came from some new friends we met on the trail - he didn't speak English at all, turns out he grew up in East Germany and they didn't teach English there. We kept running into them on the trail - they were bike-camping, and having a great time.
- We've had a not-insignificant number of people tell us what a fun-loving family we are. Much laughter (although if they only knew how inappropriate our jokes were!). We've had some downright embarrassing times with totally cracking up in public.
- This morning in Linz (2013-07-08) when Ella and I were leaving the breakfast area (nicest one yet, and that's saying something!) we encountered a nice old lady who spoke to us and asked where we were from, etc. When she found out we were from America, she gasped, and with tears in her eyes dropped some serious wisdom on us. "Oh, we absolutely LOVE America, and wish the best for you all and Barack Obama. I have never been there, and now I am an old woman, 85 years old, and I walk with 3 legs (pointing to her cane). Thank you for all that you've done for Austria." Ella and I were so happy to have talked with her.
